SELLER IN THE SPOTLIGHT:
Arun's Summer Celebrity
.

The BBC shoot their interview with Arun in the call centre at East Thames Group.
The world wants to know about Slivers sellers. But for the last few months everyone's wanted to know about Arun Soundaramourty who started selling in the East London market in March.

Arun, 24 (Bkings: 20, Hours sold: 50, buyers:3) was the first Slivers seller to be offered a full time job by one of his buyers. East Thames Group asked if he wanted to become a full time admin. assistant after he'd worked 34.5 hours in 13 bookings for them.

Arun said "Yes!". His local paper heard about this novel way of getting a job and splashed his story.

After that, Arun was asked to tell his story to Stephen Timms, the number 2 Cabinet Minister at the Treasury. Then he was asked to talk with the Conservatives' Minister for Work (see below). And, just as he started his job, BBC TV's Working Lunch programme came to interview him!

Arun says: "I've met some amazing people this summer. But I do need to get on with my new job now."

SLIVERS FUTURES: Tories say "Go Slivers!"
.
Flexible working is shaping up as a big campaign theme for the Conservatives. Leader David Cameron has already committed them to using government to drive new ways of working.

So when the Shadow Minister for Work was preparing a landmark speech on flexible work under the Tories, he asked if he could deliver it at the leading edge of flexi-working......in a Slivers-of-Time training room in East London.

Eight sellers were booked for 90 minutes to act as stewards for Philip Hammond and his entourage. They met journalists and policy people and escorted them to the room, then handed out refreshments. They also chatted with the man who hopes to be in charge of employment policy for the UK two years from now.

Seller Gaz Naseem (Bkings: 9, Hours sold: 69, buyers: 3) said: "He talked to us for 30 minutes and seemed amazed at how it all works".

Philip Hammond outlines the Tory vision for flexible working.
TIP: Print out "My Diary"
.
The "My Diary" screen gives you a snapshot of your commitments in the Slivers market at any time.

It shows:
  • the hours you've said you're available over the next two weeks
  • when you've said you can be contacted
  • what your maximum travel distance is
  • bookings for you that have already been made

It's a handy guide. Print it out and stick it on the fridge door where you can't miss it!

Life is unpredictable. You've said you're available to work today and that you'll take short-notice bookings. Then a mate invites you out and you decide you'd rather not work for the next few hours.

No problem! If you just want to make sure you don't get any bookings for a while you can Pause Your Contactability. That tells the market it can't contact you, so it won't put you forward for any bookings.

How to Pause Contactability:
1) Click "My Contactability" on your main menu bar
2) Look below the grid where you set the times you can be contacted, you'll see a box marked "Pause My Contactablity"
3) Tick the box
4) You will get a reminder on your homepage every time you log on
5) Ready to work again? Un-tick the box.
