Objectives for launch

Second Bristol logo

work2suitU is part of Bristol's Ultra Flexible Working programme, which aims to realise crosscutting business, community and environmental benefits, including:

  • Creating more flexible job opportunities for people who face particular obstacles in gaining employment.
  • Helping lone parents, unemployed people and those on incapacity benefits to secure flexible employment.
  • Creating an ultra flexible jobs market place that will bring wider economic benefits to the Bristol city region.
  • Supporting Bristol’s ambitions to be a Green Capital by improving access to local services, training and work - reducing the need for peak-time commuting.
  • supporting the City Council's Business Transformation Shared Transactional Services and New Ways of Working programmes to improve services, reduce costs and waste, improve productivity and promote a 'one council' approach.

Current status

Slivers of Time Co-ordinator (Stephen Hewitt) was appointed in June 2008. A soft launch within Bristol City Council took place on 8 July 2008. Consultation with trade unions took place on 9 October 2008.

Meetings are taking place with BCC managers about transferring existing pools of  casual workers onto work2suitU. Thus the system gets up-and-running and any teething problems get resolved before the public launch in 2009. It will then be extended to other employers. Firstly to other public bodies such as housing associations, health bodies, probation, police, fire and universities. It will then be extended to all private and voluntary sector employers.

Target date for first transactions

  • work2suitU goes live with pathfinder managers by mid-December 2008
  • work2suitU is opened up to all BCC managers by early 2009
  • Official launch by February/March 2009
